Forestry experts are available throughout Michigan to assist private forest owners. There are consulting foresters in every county who work directly for the landowner to help them plan and administer a timber harvest. Conservation Districts in northern Michigan have foresters on staff to offer educational workshops and technical assistance to landowners through the Forestry Assistance Program. The Department of Natural Resources has Service Foresters available to help private landowners. Michigan State University Extension has natural resource educators around the state. Industry foresters work for forest products companies to buy timber from landowners.
